The
DB2 REBIND and BIND processes are intended to improve application
performance, but sometimes a bind or rebind makes things worse.
Bind ImpactExpert (BIX) provides automated and intelligent management
of DB2 BINDs and REBINDs, assuring optimal application performance.
BIX avoids surprises, even when you make dynamic SQL access path
changes.
Access
path changes can be caused by different reasons. Changed statistics,
changes to the DB2 optimizer, as well as changed SQL in a new release
of an application, can lead to changed access paths.

NEWS
- What's new with BIX?
|
| >>
Package Stability Support |
| DB2
9 introduced a new feature that allows fallback to a prior access
path based on a backup. BIX has a proactive approach that allows
you to automatically predict access path changes before they
happen, which is always preferred. In support of the PACKAGE
STABILITY feature, BIX now insures that you can use PACKAGE
STABILITY only if you really need it. |
What's new?
|
| In
about 2% of all access path changes, automatic prediction of
access path improvement or degradation is nearly impossible.
For example, if the join sequence of a query changes, the resulting
access path could be better or worse. BIX filters out such plans
and packages to avoid any risk of performance degradation and
secures them via the PACKAGE STABILITY enhancement of DB2. |
How do you benefit? |
| Using
the PACKAGE STABILITY feature is a reactive approach requiring
additional directory space and increasing the REBIND time. Therefore,
general usage is not recommended. If there are rare instances
when access path prediction with BIX is not possible, combining
BIX with the PACKAGE STABILITY feature is the perfect match. |

Running
BIX to precheck the results of a REBIND or a BIND is a simple and
easy task. Let BIX analyze the BIND/REBIND commands in advance and
decide on execution using rules combined with automation. However,
many customers use BIX for much more complex scenarios than checking
a single BIND or REBIND. Forecasting all access path changes of
a DB2 version migration or driving your QA using BIX before even
touching your production environment is not much more difficult.
The new online interface of BIX now drives exactly the variety of
processes that you want to do.
Whether
you need to create a production baseline that is used for QA or
doing analysis on dynamic SQL, let BIX guide you through the new
Process Oriented Online Interface. BIX itself determines the required
steps and directs you step by step.
How
do you benefit? BIX assures company-wide standards and guides experts
as well as newbies through a variety of tasks. Development processes
can be streamlined easily while your production environment is secured
from unwanted SQL or poorly performing access paths.
