Statistics HealthCheck analyzes a DB2 subsystem and tells you exactly what is “wrong” with your statistics, thereby enabling you to proactively correct any problems that might negatively affect your performance in terms of access paths. Using a violation system, Statistics HealthCheck precisely pinpoints which objects could benefit from a RUNSTATS utility or those that otherwise require statistics housekeeping.

The foundation of the extensive rule system used by Statistics HealthCheck is based on IBM’s own recommendations for maintaining good statistics.

Statistics HealthCheck is particularly useful as a prerequisite to Bind ImpactExpert during a V8, V9 or V10 migration. First, let Statistics HealthCheck identify the RUNSTATs you need. Then, ImpactExpert provides the REBIND insurance to guarantee consistent or improved access paths.

Once Statistics HealthCheck has identified the inconsistencies in the DB2 catalog statistics, it can also fix the problem by generating the RUNSTATS statements required to update and synchronize the statistics in all the different catalog tables. However, this feature is not included in the freeware version of the product.
